The authors provide a brief historical review of Melanie Klein’s psychoanalytic development and her work, which originated from her early psychoanalytic influences with Freud, Ferenczi, and Abraham, the pioneering importance of her work with child psychoanalysis, and the concepts derived from this for adult psychoanalysis. They show how, starting from her initial fidelity to the Freudian work, she became the creator of a theoretical body of her own and different from Freud, original and solid. They examine and try to answer the criticisms and objections made to Kleinian thought, emphasizing its importance for psychoanalysis, as well as its actuality for the understanding of individual, group and social phenomena.
